SRC VP Alexis Culotta Publishes Article

We are SO proud of our SRC Vice President Alexis Culotta, who has recently published an article, “Reworking Religiosity: Raphael’s Late Altarpieces and the Workshop Perspective,” in an anthology titled The Mannerist Altarpiece: Painting and Religious Experience in Sixteenth-Century Italy (Brill, June 2026), edited by S. Cody and T. Lynn Hunt.

Defined by their elegance and technical mastery, Mannerist altarpieces are the subject of a new interpretation in this volume. Moving away from the common view that Mannerism is largely worldly or non-religious, the authors suggest that the style’s extreme beauty actually heightens the religious experience. By doing so,The Mannerist Altarpiece proposes a new framework for understanding the past and future of Renaissance art history.

Dr. Culotta is a Senior Professor of Practice in Art History at Tulane University. Congratulations Alexis!
