SRC Officer Rachel Roberts Releases New Book

SRC is proud to announce the release of Rachel M. De Smith Roberts’ new book Deep Reading: Practices to Subvert the Vices of Our Distracted, Hostile, and Consumeristic Age, co-authored by Rachel B. Griffis, and Julie Ooms.

Dr. Roberts is Professor of English and Department Chair at North Greenville University and currently serves as SRC’s Membership Chair. Her new book explores the cultivation of spiritual and intellectual practices of reading that serve to remedy the cultural and historical problems of distraction, hostility, and consumerism. Through highly attentive, active, and formative habits of reading, the book illustrates how reading can foster wisdom, empathy, and a greater capacity for love.
